Excursions

Excursions will be organized by KRAKOW DIRECT. Please make a reservation by email to Ela (elzbieta@oa.uj.edu.pl). The price will depend on the number of participants, and will be subject to negotiations once the number of participants is known. IMPORTANT:

For the trip to Auschwitz-Birkenau, we need information one month in advance with the full names for ticket reservations.

Wednesday (excursions starts after lunch)

A: inside Krakow

  1. Walking tour of the Old Town. The tour here takes about 2 hours and includes a visit to the Main Market Square with the Cloth Hall and St. Mary’s Basilica, as well as a walk along the Royal Route, the banks of the Vistula River, a visit to Wawel Hill, and the Wawel Dragon monument.
  1. Visit to the famous Kazimierz district. The tour lasts about 1.5 hours and includes a walk through the cobblestone streets of the former Jewish quarter, visits to synagogues, the Jewish cemetery, and Heroes of the Ghetto Square.

As an alternative, we can offer a tour by Melex vehicles. They can accommodate up to 5 people, and participants will learn about the history of Krakow with the help of audio guides. The tour covers 3 districts and lasts approximately 1.5 hours. However, please note that this option may provide less detailed information compared to the walking tour.

  1. Schindler’s Factory – the guided tour of the museum takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. The guide will take you through the museum, which is arranged in Schindler’s Factory, where you will learn about the occupation history of Krakow, with a particular focus on the fate of Krakow’s Jews and the history of Oskar Schindler.

    B: outside Krakow

    1. Trip to the Wieliczka Salt Mine (this trip may be shared with others, depending on the number of participants attending symposium). We provide round-trip transportation and an English-speaking guide. The Wieliczka Salt Mine is the oldest salt mine in Poland and one of the oldest in the world, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The whole visit takes about 5 hours, and the group descends up to 135 meters underground. During the tour, the guide will share the history of the chambers while admiring underground lakes and sculptures made entirely of salt. The Salt Mine also houses St. Kinga’s Chapel. It’s important to note that this tour involves descending 800 steps, so we do not recommend it for participants with mobility issues.

    Salt Mine for 10 persons:

    1. Trip to Auschwitz-Birkenau (this trip may be shared with others, depending on the number of participants attending symposium). It lasts approximately 7 hours. We provide round-trip transportation, an informative film during the journey, and an English-speaking guide. During the tour, guests will spend around 2 hours in Auschwitz and then 1.5 hours in Birkenau. For this trip, we need information one month in advance with the confirmed number of participants and their full names for ticket reservations.

    Auschwitz-Birkenau for 5 persons:

    Saturday (excursions start in the morning)

    1. Trip to Zakopane (this trip may be shared with others, depending on the number of participants attending symposium). It includes transportation to and from Krakow, and the entire trip lasts about 10 hours (including 2 hours of transportation each way and a 5-hour stay on site). The standard itinerary includes visiting the Woodcarver’s House or the Tatra Museum, taking a cable car ride to Gubałówka, free time on Krupówki Street, and a visit to the Pod Wielką Krokwią ski jumping hill. The itinerary can be modified according to the group’s interests.

    Zakopane for 3 persons:
